Get playing tennis at Bubwith, near Selby & Howden

Players of all age and abilities are welcome at Bubwith Tennis Club – and there is lots to get involved with if you want to. If not, then simply come along to the club when it is convenient for you for your own private match.

If your racket needs a little TLC, we can even help organise restringing. See the facilities page for details of our partnership with Rob Jackson and Angell.

Court availability

Bubwith Tennis Club does not operate currently a court booking system – but with three courts availability is good and members can simply drop by when they want to but any fixtures or sessions are listed on the Events Diary page so you can easily see what is going on. Courts are open between 8am-10pm, however, please be aware that league fixtures, club tournaments, club nights and coaching sessions take priority over private matches.

The courts are to remain padlocked when not in use. Keys to the courts can be obtained from the clubhouse. Please see the membership page for details on how to purchase a clubhouse key.

Club Nights

Club Nights are held during the summer season and take place on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm until the light fades. All members (aged 13+) are welcome to come down for a social hit.

Players mix up during the evening, so you will get the opportunity to play with and against a range of people, with varying levels of play. Whatever your standard, it is a great way to develop your game and a nice social evening.

To make things easier, there is a Club Night WhatsApp group – just get in touch using our contact form to request to be added.

Monthly doubles handicap tournament

Our free-to-enter doubles handicap tournament, organised by the club’s Tournament Director Shaun Pinchbeck, takes place on a monthly basis during the season for club members aged 13 and above.

With a maximum number of 12 players able to participate, the tournament sees all pairings play each other, with everyone in with a chance of winning thanks to the handicap system.

On arrival, you will be informed about who you will be partnering, before a knock-up and handicap assessment. Prizes are awarded to the winning pair.

Dates for the 2024 tournaments coming soon!!!

Tennis rackets

Non-members: Guests & visitors

Accompanied by a member

Non-members accompanied by a member are welcome to play at Bubwith Tennis Club on two occasions before they are required to join. On the first occasion, there will be no charge, whereas on the second there will be a guest fee of £3. Please ensure that the appropriate fee is paid into the visitors’ box inside the clubhouse and your details signed into the visitors book.

Unaccompanied by a member

Everyone is welcome at Bubwith Tennis Club.

If you would like to play without a member present, then please visit Morrisons in the village where you will be able to obtain a key for the West court. The West court stands alone around the corner from the other two in the Leisure Centre’s main car park. Whilst the courts are open to members until 10pm, guests will need to return the key to Morrisons prior to the shop closing (currently 9pm but please check).

Whilst members do take priority in regard to the use of the courts, the West court is regularly available except during match times and on Wednesday evenings for Club Nights and Doubles Handicap Tournaments. Please check the Events Diary for availability

Non-members will need to pay a fee of £5 per 1 hour session. A deposit of £10 will be refunded on the return of the key.

Please note that this does not give access to the clubhouse or toilet facilities. Toilet facilities are also available at the Leisure Centre when open.
